Trims & Features

The car is available in three trim levels – LS, LT, and the Premier. Moving up the trim levels provides a large aura of exquisite features ranging from various power train options to a wide variety of packages that satisfies the needs of the buyers.

The base trim LS has a price of $50,800 which is comparatively high in the world of luxury SUVs. The car is packed with 5.3 liter V8 which is capable of delivering 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The engine is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission which is quite versatile. Considering the other trim levels, it is the only trim that has a seating capacity of nine people and three bench seats. Some prominent features of the car include –

  • Remote keyless entry
  • Tri-zone climatic control
  • Power front seats
  • Android Auto and Apple Car Play
  • Enhanced Driver Alert Package which helps the driver with a plethora of options.

The LT trim is the intermediate one with a price of $55,800. It is provided with leather upholstery and other upscale features in the interior. The Luxury Package provides new features to further aid the driver. The unique feature of this car would be the Z71 Package, which is quite useful on the highway due to its off-road suspension and tires.

The Premium is the topmost trim and is provided with the highest tech features which are not present in the other trim levels. A few of these are the Magnetic Ride Control Suspension and the ventilated front seats with adaptive cruise control which are exclusive. A variety of such attributes in the car makes the price of the car reach a staggering amount of $65,500. The Premium is also bolstered with a 6.2 liter V8 which can produce up to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque along with a fantastic 10-speed automatic transmission which in turn raises the luxury level of the car brilliantly.

Which 2020 Chevy Suburban We Recommend?

Though it is a natural thought to go for the topmost Premium trim for all the necessary world-class features it has to deliver, but it is better not to be tempted towards it especially because of the high base cost and other additional ones which the buyer has to incur, which ultimately does not make much sense. So in order to get all the necessary updates and features at an affordable cost, the LT trim might be the most preferred one which also adds key safety features to the car.

2020 Chevy Suburban Performance

Engine

The Suburban comes standard with the 5.3-liter V8 engine which can produce 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. This, in turn, is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission and the whole combination is essential for easy moving of the large SUV. Another optional is in the form of 6.2 liter V8 which produces 420 horsepower and 460-pound ft of torque with a 10-speed automatic transmission. However, it is worth mentioning that this optional engine is available only in the Premium trim.

Acceleration

However, the acceleration seems to be quite quick especially considering the large size of the Suburban. The upgraded 10-speed automatic transmission can reach from 0 – 60 mph in just 6.2 sec compared to the regular 6-speed automatic one.

As is quite expected, the large size of the car is a hindrance in parking lots, etc. However, it corners very well and passengers hardly feel anything while traveling. The steering is quite sharp as well. The car rides smoothly and is a useful one in unfavorable roads and terrains as it absorbs road imperfections with ease. The Magnetic Ride Control in the Premium trim is useful for handling and ride comforts. However, its firm and the responsive brake pedal is quite efficient in long rides.

2020 Chevy Suburban Fuel Economy

The base engine of the Suburban’s 5.3 liters V8 achieves 15 miles per gallon in the city and 22 mpg in the highway and 18 combined. Opting for the four-wheel-drive can see a slight drop up to 14 mpg in the city and 21 mpg in the highway and a combined mpg of 16.

2020 Chevy Suburban Interior

The Suburban has a seating capacity of nine people, however, seven to eight people can sit comfortably in it. The general setup is for eight with bucket seats and row benches in the front and back respectively. The front row of seats also offers plenty of room and is comfortable as well. For entry into the third row, the middle row seats tumble forward. However, the rear seats being astonishingly very small, adults are better off occupying front seats for shorter trips. Rear seats are just not comfortable according to expectations.

Some standard features include cloth upholstery along with a 10 way power-adjustable front seats along with heated and ventilated front and back seats. The interior of the car has a lot of luxury touches in it and gives a solid feel of the car. The materials are top-notch with an upscale appearance. However, the Premium trim is the go-to trim for buyers who would wish to have high-class seating arrangements.

2020 Chevy Suburban Infotainment

The car has an infotainment system, popularly known as the Chevrolet infotainment system ( My Link ). The easy to use interface has large buttons and commands which are prominent on the 8-inch touch screen. Android Auto and Apple Car Play are standard in the car. The key features in the infotainment system are listed below –

  • 110-volt power outlet
  • 4G – LTE Wi-Fi capability
  • Six speaker audio system
  • Bluetooth and HD radio
  • OnStar
  • Sirius XM trial subscription
  • Bose 9 speaker system on the LT and the upgraded Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound 10 speaker system.
  • Wireless charging

However, the best thing which we liked about the car is its highly comfortable cabin with upscale materials along with a seating capacity of 9 people which can be used for long family trips.

Design and Dimension

At a first look, the 2020 Chevy Suburban does not look much different between the trims. The wheels of the Premium increase in size from 18-inch aluminum ones on the LS and LT trim to 20-inch polished alloy wheels. The hood and liftgate panels are made of aluminum in order to reduce the weight. A significant feature of the car is its length which increases from 222.4 to 224.4 inches and height sees a decrease from 76.8 to 74.4, thus allowing the vehicle to have a lean and a slightly wider appearance with immense space inside.

Exterior Features

The exterior of the car bears a stylish look with a glossy appearance. A feature prominent in the car is its acoustic laminated glass, which is a favorite among buyers. Apart from that, black assist steps, black roof-mounted side rails, and a solar absorbing windshield are the key ones that are worth mentioning. Daytime running lamps are also of great use in long trips. The Premier trim also has fog lamps and heated outside mirrors along with a hands-free programmable liftgate. The LS and LT consist of Intelli beam headlamps which are in turn absent in the Premier trim.

2020 Chevy Suburban Competition

The three prime competitors of the car are – Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe and the GMC Yukon.

2020 Chevy Suburban vs 2020 Ford expedition

Both are quite similar cars with almost the same set of features. The Ford was redesigned in the year 2018 and like the Chevy, it also boasts of an elegant cabin full of premium materials. However, the Ford seems spacious than the Chevy with more room in the third row. Though both the cars go hand in hand in terms of cargo space, the Expedition has better performance due to its turbocharged V6 engine along with a comfortable ride and efficient handling.

The Ford Expedition also comes with standard safety features such as driver assistance etc which are optional in the Suburban. Though Ford is a good SUV, the price of the car is quite upscale which would give buyers a second thought. If the price is not an issue then the Ford is best to go with, but if budget is an important factor, then the 2020 Chevy Suburban is a nice choice as well.

2020 Chevy Suburban vs 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe

Though the short wheelbase version of the Tahoe is almost similar to the Suburban, yet both the SUV’s have some subtle differences. The Tahoe has a higher safety rating and is also a cost-efficient car than the Suburban, costing $2800 less than it. The Tahoe has restricted third-row space and lesser cargo space than the Suburban, while the other features are quite comparable. Hence, choosing between both cars is a matter of budget and if the person favors a better cargo space.

The GMC Yukon is also a significant car in the world of large SUVs with immense similarities with the Tahoe and Suburban. However, it can be safely said that the Yukon does not offer any special advantage over the Suburban and with a base price of $52,400, it is more upscale than the Suburban. In both the configurations, the Yukon has the same power train choices and similar interior quality, handling and towing abilities. Hence, considering everything, the Suburban would be a better economical choice than the Yukon.

Our Verdict

Comfortable, capable and ready for anything are the few words that can be used aptly, to sum up, the utilities of the car. The car offers large SUV utility and versatility along with a luxurious and mesmerizing interior, which is a complete package for the buyer. Adding to it, its inventive and original safety features, which go generally unnoticed, makes it one of the secure cars in the class of luxury sedans. The infotainment system of the car is as well quite good enough and hence the 2020 Chevy Suburban can be regarded as one of the best in the family of large SUVs in the American market.
