The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox is one of the best selling vehicles in the SUV segment. It is GM’s favorite car after the Chevy Silverado, and the company is planning to roll out the 2021 Chevy Equinox with stylish upgraded features and refreshed midcycle. But, the recently launched 2020 Chevy Equinox also boasts a range of updated features and a few significant changes from its previous year models.
The first significant change that GM has done with the 2020 Chevy Equinox is that it has stopped the production of the 3LT and 3LZ trims. Both of these trims used to have a 1.6-liter LH7 turbo-diesel engine in the previous year’s models of the Chevy Equinox. Trims available in the 2020 Chevy Equinox lineup are L (1SM), LS – which consists of the 1FL and 1LS trims; LT that includes 2FL, 1LT, and 2LT, and Premier, that consists of 1LZ and 2LZ trims.
Another significant change introduced in the 2020 Chevy Equinox is the color range. GM is no longer producing 2020 Chevy Equinox in Storm Blue Metallic, Sandy Ridge Metallic, Ivy Metallic, Kinetic Blue Metallic, Orange Burst Metallic, Pepperdust Metallic, and Satin Steel Metallic colors. It is manufacturing the 2020 Chevy Equinox in three distinct colors, namely, Chocolate Metallic, Cayenne Orange Metallic, and Midnight Blue Metallic.
Aside from the changes mentioned above, GM has also removed the outside heated body-color mirrors that were capable of power adjustment and manual folding. The 2019 Chevy Equinox had these mirrors as a standard feature in the 2FL trim and optional feature (part of the Driver Confidence Package) in the 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trims. These were also available in the 2019 Chevy Equinox Redline Edition.
A significant improvement in the Driver Convenience Package of the 2FL, 1LT, and 2LT trims of the 2020 Chevy Equinox is that it offers front fog lamps. These are also available as an optional feature in the Infotainment Package (WPZ) of the 2020 Chevy Equinox 3LT. The fog lamps feature was not available in the LT trims of the 2019 Chevy Equinox. Moreover, the 2020 Chevy Equinox LS, LT, and Premier/1LZ trims also have a rear bumper protector. This feature was available under two different packages for the 2019 Chevy Equinox buyers.
Additionally, the 2020 Chevy Equinox trims with or without the chrome handles have buttons for keyless entry only for the front seat passenger and the driver. Both the Sport and Midnight Edition of the 2020 Chevy Equinox has a High-Gloss Black Window DLO trim. Also, the RPO code of the 19″ wheels has changed from RT7 to PJT, and they bear sparkling silver pocket machine-finished look.
The interior of the 2020 Chevy Equinox Midnight and Special Editions is different from other models. It doesn’t consist of a Black and Cinnamon color combination seating. Instead, it consists of perforated jet black colored seats. The leather-wrapped shift lever of the previous year Chevy Equinox models has been replaced by the chrome-trimmed shift lever in the 2020 Chevy Equinox. It is no longer available in the Driver Convenience Package, as it used to be in the previous year Chevy Equinox trims. Lastly, the 2019 Chevy Equinox models consisted of leather-wrapped steering wheels in the 2FL trims. Instead, buyers will find a three-spoke steering wheel in the 2020 Chevy Equinox 2FL trims. However, owners do have the choice to upgrade the vehicle to Premium trim or avail the Driver Convenience Package to install the leather steering wheel.
Aside from the significant changes mentioned above, the 2020 Chevy Equinox also has two additional packages, namely, Sport Edition and Midnight Edition. These two packages might seem alike, but they have certain restrictions in many regards. Also, GM replaced the names of a few boxes. The Driver Confidence Package is now the Driver Confidence II Package, and the Driver Confidence II Package is now the Driver Confidence III Package in the 2020 Chevy Equinox.
