The Chicago Auto Show is going on with the pedal to the metal. On the 6th of February, General Motors revealed the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox along with the much anticipated “RS” trim. If the Blazer is something to go with, the Equinox RS will probably slot between the LT and the Premier trim.
The Equinox RS sports a new front and rear-end design. Along with that, the RS also includes some black highlights on the exterior of the vehicle. The upgrade also includes a set of 19-inch alloy wheels and a very sporty looking quad exhaust tip setup. The “RS” treatment continues to the interior as well. The interior of the Equinox RS has black upholstery with red contrast stitching. To top it all off in the interior, the RS also has an “RS” badge on the gear knob.
The standard Equinox has also received cosmetic changes. They include a refreshed front fascia and a new rear design as well. The lighting setup of the vehicle has also received updates including fog lamps.
In addition to the cosmetic changes, the safety features have also received an upgrade. Chevrolet has announced that more safety features would be available across all the trims. The 2020 model of the Equinox offers Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and Forward Automatic Braking as standard, but only certain trims can opt with features such as Rear Cross-Traffic Alert or GM’s Safety Alert Seat. With these changes, more and more features would be available across the whole line up. Customers would most likely be able to choose for rear cross-traffic alert with the L trim as well.
As far as engine options are concerned, the Equinox will be available with a turbocharged 1.5L LYX inline four-cylinder, as well as the turbocharged 2.0L LTG inline four-cylinder. The 1.5-liter engine is capable of pushing out 170 horses and 203 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the 2-liter engine is rated at 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine option is mated to a 9-speed automatic unit that has proved itself time and again throughout the GM lineup. The EPA fuel economy figures are not available yet.
