It has been in the mid of everyone from a very long time wanting GM to convert America’s greatest sports car into a mid-engine layout. And GM listened, not only they made it into a mid-engine car but increased its power along the way.
Many other automobile makers such as the Ferrari, Audi, Porsche, and Acura did it so it was about time Chevy makes it possible too. The rumor was that Corvette’s first chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov had made proposals for a mid-engine corvette. We don’t know if it is true or not but if it is then they sure took a long time designing it.
2020 C8 Corvette Awards List
Before even hitting the road the 2020 C8 Corvette has managed to bag some great achievements on its way up the ladder. Previously named as the 2020 Motor Trend Car of the Year and appearing on many celebrity shows and youtube channels the 2020 C8 got exposure like no other car.
Recently the 2020 C8 Corvette has been named The Detroit Free Press’ Car of the Year. I’d like to quote a line from the Free Press’ News Automotive Editor Mark Phelan’s word
“ In a car full of surprises, the biggest may be the 2020 Corvette’s comfortable, quiet ride. Adaptive magnetic control shocks and active noise cancellation make the ‘Vette a road-trip-ready supercar. Route 66, here I come.”Source: DetroitFreePress
In a short talk from Mark Phelan, he mentioned that he’ll also vote for the Chevy’s flagship C8 Corvette in the 2020 North American Car of the Year awards. The North American Car of the Year aka NACTOY has many decent finalists running for this award. The finalists are BMW 3 Series, Cadillac CT5, Porsche 911 and much more.
Detroit Free Press Car of the Year Finalists
Y’all know by now that Corvette got the first spot on the Free Press Car of the Year list but what you don’t know is who was the Corvette up against. The 2020 C8 Corvette was up against cars like the 2020 Hyundai Sonata and 2019 Volkswagen Arteon. The competition is just not good enough for the mighty beast such as Corvette. Not a Hyundai or VW hater but being a Chevy guy I’d prefer a Chevy over any other brand anytime.
2020 C8 Corvette Specs & Overview
- Base Price: $58,900
- Engine: 495-horsepower 6.2L V8
- Transmission: 8-speed dual-clutch automatic
The 2020 C8 Corvette comes with a brand new naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 engine which is slightly more powerful than the older engine which used to come in the C8.
C7 Corvette came with a 6.2L V8 engine called LT1 which was capable of producing up to 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. C8, on the other hand, comes with an upgraded 6.2L V8 engine called LT2 with 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The shift of the engine from the hood to rear-mid gives Corvette more opportunities. The engine will keep the weight on the rear wheels which will lead in giving power to the wheels before even spinning.
