Equinox is one of the most popular cars that bear the famous “golden cross”. It slots above the Chevrolet Trax and below the Chevrolet Traverse. The 2019 Equinox belongs to the 3rd generation of this crossover. The older generations were based on the Theta and Theta 2 platforms, respectively. The current generation rides on GM’s D2 platform which it shares with the GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Volt. While the older generations competed in the mid-size crossover segment, the current generation, with the reduction in dimensions, finds itself in the compact crossover segment.

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is segregated into 4 trims for the US market. There are also options for FWD or AWD for all trims except the base trim. The top two trims also have an opportunity for a 2L turbo engine or a 1.6L turbocharged diesel engine.
The base L trim comes with 7” Touchscreen infotainment section, heated power outside mirrors, front and rear powered windows, 4-way manually adjustable front bucket seats, 60/40 Split-Folding back Seats, 3.5” Multi-Color DIS, wheel-mounted controls and power door locks. Which 2019 Chevrolet Equinox We Recommend?

We suggest you go for the fully loaded Premier variant with the AWD option. You will be treated with a bunch of premium features that will make you admire this Chevy. If you are one of those folks who use an SUV the way it is supposed to be used, then opt for the optional 2L engine.

Engine & Transmission

There are 3 engine choices to choose from with the all-new Equinox to match your requirements. The 1.5L turbocharged Flat 4 engine is the most common choice. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine churns out 170 horses and has a maximum torque output of 203 lb/ft. This engine is perfect for daily city commutes and occasional long trips. We occasionally say as this engine feels underpowered on the highway and will keep you longing for more power.

The available 2L turbocharged Inline 4 solves this issue as it churns out 252 “buff horses” and 260 lb/ ft of torque. This should be the engine of choice if you love hitting the highway often. The extra horses also come in handy on the off-road trails. Yes, the fuel economy takes a hit, but it’s a trade-off you won’t regret. The 9-speed automatic gearbox might be a little confusing to start with because of the numerous cogs, but you’ll get used to it in no time.

The 1.6L turbocharged diesel Flat 4 may produce only 130 horses, but it produces 240 lb/ft of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and has an excellent fuel economy. However, the diesel engine will cost you $2,400 more than the 1.5L gasoline engine, and this sum will take a long time to recover.
Regardless of the engine under the hood, what is constant with the 2019 Equinox it’s quiet and composed ride quality. The wheel might be on the lighter side, but it’s very accurate. The all-wheel-drive has your back when it snows or rains heavily. You can also switch between 2WD and 4WD at the click of a button.

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is one of the fastest accelerating cars among its competitors. It can do 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds and is the quickest in the segment. It can also complete a quarter-mile drag race in 14.7 seconds which is again the fastest time in the section. There are two determinants behind the Equinox’s impressive acceleration figures.  The first is its curb weight which is 3274 lbs and is the lightest car in the segment. The other reason is its turbocharger that provides an instant adrenaline rush to the engine.

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox has a very efficient braking system. It can come to a standstill from 60 mph in just 115 feet. This figure is only bettered by the Ford Escape, which does the same in 112 feet. The curb weight again comes to play here. The 2019 Equinox is equipped with 4 wheel Anti-lock Braking System for automatic emergency braking. It also has disc brakes in both the front and rear wheels. The automatic emergency braking system is only available in the LT and Premier trims.

2019 Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Economy (MPG)

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox has impressive MPG figures. The 1.5L turbocharged FWD variant has a fuel economy of 26 mpg in the city, 32 on the highway and a combined value of 28 mpg. Its AWD variant has 25 mpg in the city, 30 on the highway and a combined figure of 27 mpg.

The 2L turbocharged front-wheel-drive Equinox’s fuel efficiency figures are 22 mpg for the city, 29 mpg for the highway and 25 mpg combined. The AWD avatar has 22 mpg in the city, 28 on the highway and a combined figure of 28 mpg.
The 1.6L diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient engine among the three. The FWD 1.6L turbocharged Equinox will get you 28 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway and has a combined figure of 32 mpg. The AWD will get you 28 mp in the city, 38 mpg on the highway and has a combined figure of 32 mpg

2019 Chevrolet Equinox Interior

The redesign of the 2018 Equinox shrunk its dimension by a few inches, which means that the cabin lacks the space offered by its predecessor. However, it’s more nimble now and more comfortable to drive and park in the city. The cabin can comfortably accommodate 5 passengers, and there are enough legroom and headroom for all.
The seats are well cushioned and offer ample lateral support. The front seats are bucket type, and the rear ones are 60/40 split-folding. The seats on the rear also come with 2 complete sets of LATCH anchors. The L and LS trims come with 4 way manually adjustable driver’s seats while the LT and Premier trim get 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seats with 2 way lumbar support. The front passenger seats across all trims on the 2019 Equinox are 4 way manually adjustable. The back seats miss out on the sliding capability of its predecessor.

The L, LS, and LT trim come with cloth upholstery while the Premier variant has Leather-appointed seats and steering wheel. It also gets heated and ventilated front seats. The default cargo space of the 2019 Equinox is 30 cubic feet. Some of its rivals such as the 2019 Rogue has a larger trunk, but the Equinox is more than capable of handling your daily needs. The 60/40 split-folding rear seats increase the cargo space to 63.4 cubic feet.
