Which 2019 Chevy Cruze We Recommend?
Our recommendation is to go for the LT trim. The Premier is priced decently at around $22,595, which is significantly less than the Diesel model as well as Premier. The LT is the mid-level trim of the Cruze, is priced in a way to offer great value for the money. The LT trim offers an array of features and benefits. The LT has just a perfect combination of all necessary features and premium features. The Premier, which is the top model of the Cruze, on the other hand, comes at a premium of around $2000 and provides several additional features that are more luxurious than useful.
2019 Chevy Cruze Performance
Engine & Transmission
The 2019 Chevy Cruze is neither popular for its performance nor is high on performance. All the models of the 2019 Cruze (except the Cruze Diesel) are equipped with a 1.4L four-cylinder Turbo ECOTEC engine which churns out 153 hp at 5600 rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque. This engine is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Cruze Diesel, on the other hand, equips a 1.6L 4-cylinder Turbo-Diesel ECOTEC engine, which, combined with the 9-speed automatic transmission, produces 137 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. Both the motors, though pretty smooth, lack any kind of punch as they are basic. Starting from a standstill, it takes a bit of time for the Cruze to move to the top gear. Driving through the city or on highways feels great and its handling is quite good, which gives it a unique character. Moving uphill, it does a good job of staying put on lower gears.
Where the Cruze lags behind its rivals is the acceleration. The acceleration feels slow, and moving from 0 to 60 mph takes around 9.6 seconds. The rivals can do better in this regard. But once it gets moving, the car catches up to its rivals impressively. However, the driving experience could have been significantly improved, had Chevrolet paid attention to the acceleration.
The brakes are also very efficient and stop the car as soon as you press the brake pedal. The pedal is responsive indeed and very firm. The stopping distance for the Cruze is merely around 110 feet while going down from 60 to 0 mph, which is impressive.
Ride & Handling
In terms of handling, the 2019 Cruze performs well. It has a light and a responsive steering wheel that offers smoothness to the handling and makes the car feel well under control. The Cruze feels quite planted while turning and has a good sporty feeling to it. The tires, though a bit noisy for a compact car, provide good grip and balanced handling.
2019 Chevy Cruze Fuel Economy
The 2019 Chevy Cruze has a fuel tank capacity of around 13.7 gal. It has an impressive EPA estimated fuel economy, which is:
- City – 28 MPG
- Highway – 38 MPG
- Combined – 32 MPG
The Cruze has a city cruising range of 384 miles, while in the Highway, it is 521 miles.
2019 Chevy Cruze Interior
Seating & Comfort
The 2019 Chevy Cruze has a very plush-looking cabin, which is both roomy and comfortable for the occupants. What impresses the most is the long list of available features that come as standard. The Cruze has single-zone climate control, which is manual in the lower trims and is automatic in the higher levels. The center console is floor-mounted and comes with an armrest. The steering wheel in the higher trim levels has mounted controls including the electric cruise control. It also has a monochromatic Driver information display. Rear vision camera and Remote Keyless entry are standard in all models of the 2019 Cruze. The Steering Column is tilt and telescopic, and then it is also available as heated and leather-wrapped in the upper trims.
The 2019 Chevy Cruze has a very comfortable set of seats. All the models come with front bucket seats with reclining seatbacks and adjustable head restraints. In the base models, the rear seats are folding with adjustable head restraints for outboard seating positions, while the higher trims have 60/40 split-fold seats in the rear with adjustable head restraints along with a center armrest containing two cupholders.
The driver’s seat is either 6-way manually adjustable or 8-way power-adjustable, depending upon the trim level. Front passenger’s seat is two way manually adjustable, although, in the Cruze premier, a four-way manually adjustable front passenger’s seat is standard. The seats are wrapped in either cloth or leatherette and comes in three color choices.
The Cruze offers a good amount of leg and headroom in the front. The seating is quite comfortable, and long journeys are not arduous. There is also decent rear knee clearance, which makes the entry and exit quite effortless. The center armrest and the center console has many storage options for small items.
The new 2019 Cruze comes with Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system as standard with all the trims. The infotainment system comes with a 7-inch full-color display. Smartphones can be easily connected to the system through either Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. With the available 4G LTE Wi-Fi having pretty strong signals, the car’s in-vehicle experience is improved further. The higher models like the LT, Diesel, and premier have the SIRIUS XM as standard for three months, which allows you to browse through a wide catalog of music, sports and much more. The mychevrolet Mobile App comes in very handy if one chooses the Remote Access Plan, remote engine start-stop, set parking reminders, or even lock/unlock doors.
The infotainment 3 system is very simple, yet smart. Its ease of use is a plus point. With the steering wheel-mounted controls and efficient voice commands, all the features can be very conveniently utilized. Another important feature of the 2019 Cruze is the Chevrolet ConnectedAccess with 10 years of standard connectivity, which includes vehicle diagnostics and dealer maintenance notifications. The L and LS models have a standard four-speaker sound system, while the upper trims come with a 6-speaker sound system. However, there is also the available Bose premium 9-speaker audio system for an enhanced music experience, present as an option.
The Cruze, being a compact car, is very generous in terms of the cabin space on offer. The seats are quite comfortable and supportive. There is an array of features and technologies involved to make the ride quality even better. And to top it all, the new Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system is very easy to use and efficient in its function.

The 2019 Toyota Corolla is a sensible car no doubt and has a very attractive design and cool features. The Corolla uses the same engine since 2009, which delivers underwhelming performance, poor acceleration, and disappointing drive quality. The interior of the 2019 Cruze is also more spacious and comfortable than that of the Corolla. Most of the cabin materials in the Corolla feels cheap. The fuel economy of the Corolla is also quite poor as compared to its rivals in the segment.
