Overview

The Chevrolet Corvette has always been Chevrolet’s rendition of an accessible “supercar” of sorts, but it has never come so close to competing with the big boys as it has with its C7 avatar. Chevrolet has certainly turned the Corvette into a beautiful masterpiece that has the potential to be one of the best performance bargains on the market, especially in its 2019 Corvette Z06 guise. The Corvette might not be as exotic as the rest of its competition but it sure does give them a thorough run for their money.

What’s New in the 2019 Corvette Z06?

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is essentially the last year for the C7 body style of the Corvette before Chevrolet moves forward with the biggest change in Corvette’s history which is switching to a mid-engine body type instead of the classic front-engine rear-drive. The C7 Corvette according to Chevrolet is their best attempt at providing the consumers with a great front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car and therefore moving forward they need to put in this drastic change to provide a better end product.

Which Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Is Recommended?

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is one loaded car when it comes to kit on offer. Where it differentiates itself from most other vehicles is the fact that the Z06 does instill in itself a lot of mechanical differences form the regular Corvette in the form of a better braking setup, different gear ratios, different cooling systems, more sophisticated suspension among the most notable in contrast to just adding technology inside the cabin.

If we were to recommend one of the trims of the Corvette Z06 it would certainly have to be the Z06 2LZ. The 2 LZ package makes the most practical sense because it gets you almost all of the added goodies without having to step up to the 3LZ. If you aren’t planning to track your car a lot and definitely don’t see the benefit of the performance data recorder on the 3LZ, it is best to stick with the 2LZ as it gets you all of the creatures comforts only lacking in the better infotainment screen and the performance data recorder, which in our view is something that isn’t really missed.

2019 Corvette Z06 Performance

Engine & Transmission

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 comes standard with the extremely love 6.2 Litre V-8 that makes a ballistic 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque while scorching down the tarmac with an exhaust note that is worthy to play in car-guy heaven. For the transmission duties, Chevrolet has kept all of its manual loving audience happy by offering a seven-speed manual transmission right alongside their lightning-quick 8-Speed Automatic transmission.

Whatever transmission you choose, the Z06 is going to plant your guts deep into its seats whenever you even thinking about stepping on the accelerator pedal because it is downright organ rearranging with its performance. One would never expect a domestic brand like Chevrolet to put out such an exceptional performing vehicle that it becomes difficult to even talk and express how much you are enjoying yourself when you are behind the wheel.

The Automatic transmission is quick from the get-go and is certainly going to be the one you should pick if drag times are your thing, but since the Z06 still comes with the third pedal, we genuinely would urge you to make the most of it while you can because it is nearing a farewell every single day we move forward.

Ride and Handling

The Corvette Z06 is a marvel in Chevrolet’s product portfolio when it comes to riding and handling. The Z06 manages to be everything you want it to be and much more. The Selectable Drive Modes and Adaptable Magna-Ride Suspension transform this vehicle from a comfortable daily driver to a track tearing weapon in a matter of toggle switches. The Z06 is surprisingly compliant for being the much more aggressive version of the standard Corvette and doesn’t make you feel that you are driving such a high-performance machine out o the streets making it an apt daily.

Depending on what trim and packages you choose, you get even better mechanical bits in the form of better aero, stickier tires and improved braking setups which just keep on making the Z06 an even more capable car than it already is. At one point it just becomes impossible to justify spending 2-3 times more cash on cars that though have the brand value but still underperform in front of the humble Corvette.

The 2019 Corvette Z06 is just magnificent in terms of ride and handling because it does everything so bloody well. You can do cross country trips in it while being relatively comfortable or hand bus length gaps to people on the race track and then drive the same very car home perfectly relaxed. We say it again: It is whatever you want it to be!

Acceleration

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is mind-numbingly quick. How mind-numbing you ask? 2.9 Seconds from dig to 60mph mind-numbing, and that is not where it ends, it goes and goes and clocks the quarter-mile under 11 seconds.

This is a factory spec car that has a factory warranty and is still able to thrash supercars for bragging rights? Christ Almighty. Yes, the manual transmission is slower than the automatic and breaks the 60 mph barrier at 3.2 seconds on the clock but it really doesn’t matter because the manual gives you another kind of high.

The acceleration and high-speed stability of the Z06 is certainly something to experience to believe and is bound to make you fall in love with the vehicle at that very point.

Braking

The braking setup on the Corvette Z06 is well equipped to handle the kind of performance the car offers. It has tremendous bite and feedback and brings the car down to a halt in no time. If you opt for the Z07 package, you are bestowed with the Carbon Ceramic Brembo setup which is a boon on the track but might just be too grabby for the streets. The 6-Piston front and 4-Piston rear standard Brembo setup is no slouch on its own and should be adequate for anything the average driver throws at the car.

The way the Z06 shed off-speed really inspires a lot of confidence in the driver and does push them that extra bit to extract even better lap times without a lot of seat time. Out on the highways as well, the Z06’s braking system makes sure that you don’t turn into a safety hazard for others.

Fuel Economy (MPG)

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is bound to make you take a second look at its fuel efficiency, especially out on the highway because the Z06 arguably is the most fuel-efficient 650 hp vehicle out there. It isn’t much of a task for the Z06 to attain an astonishing 29 mpg out on the highway with the biggest token of gratitude going to cylinder deactivation which transforms the Z06 into a Prius. Yes, you do have to be gentle on the throttle but that is quite reasonable when you are out on the highways. Inside the city, you can expect a reasonable 17 mpg which is respectable for what this car is.

One notable point is that if you choose the automatic transmission you are liable to pay the gas guzzler tax whereas the manual transmission is exempt from the same.

2019 Corvette Z06 Interior

Seating and Comfort

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06’s cabin is pretty smart to look at and be in with little to no compromise. The Z06 features a driver-centric layout with not a lot of compromise for the passenger. The Z06 features Sport bucket seats with heavy bolstering on the sides that are designed to hold you in place under heavy cornering but are still roomy enough to accommodate a more chubby body frame. The seats strike a nice balance between great support and comfort and don’t tend to overbearingly race car-inspired. There is a good amount of overall space inside the two-seater cabin but taller passengers might feel that the cabin’s headroom is at a little premium. The 2LZ and above trims also adds 8-way power-adjustable seats with powered lumbar and memory functionality. They also get heating and ventilation when you opt for the 2LZ and up. All three trims get varied material finishes and upholstery for the seats and the interior, and all the finishes are brilliant in their own rights.

Infotainment

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06’s Infotainment system is one of the better implementations of the Chevrolet MY LINK System. It is snappy and responsive to inputs while not being overly complicated to use. The touch screen has a very convenient storage solution behind itself as the screen slides out of the way to reveal a storage compartment that also houses a wireless charger for your phone. The vehicle comes outfitted with a 9 Speaker BOSE Audio System that does an impressive job on its own but was mostly unused due to the exhaust note of the car being so sonorous. The 2LZ and above trims also get an upgraded 10 Speaker setup that has even more bass but certainly shouldn’t be the sole reason for you to upgrade trims.

The MY Link system also comes with factory support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that is pretty seamless to use.

If you go for the top-spec 3LZ Trim, you also get the famed Performance Data Recorder that gives you an additional camera in the front in tune with the reversing camera to be able to record your laps with all the telemetry being overlaid on the video feed.

2019 Corvette Z06 Exterior

Design and Dimension

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is one of the prettiest looking cars from the Chevrolet stable with its long hood and wide track. To us, it is tough for Chevrolet to be able to make something that looks more striking than the C7. The Z06 matches the standard Corvette’s wheelbase at 106.7 inches but is substantially lower to the ground and longer by almost an inch. The fact that the Z06 is so long, wide and low stems from the idea of what this car is supposed to do and the design certainly reflects it.

Exterior Features

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is one hell of a looker with its extremely aggressive styling and bold front end. It genuinely has one of the meanest looking faces to be put on a vehicle ever. The wide flared fenders and 20 Inch Wheels with 335 section tires in the rear make it look extremely purposeful. The crown jewel of the rear though has to be the Dual Barrel Dual Exhaust that are positioned in the center making the center have 4 exhaust piped jutting out with polished tips that look smashing.

The biggest party piece in the Corvette Z06 comes in the form of a removable carbon-fiber roof that essentially transforms your coupe into somewhat of an open-top experience which is pretty neat. There are also plenty of optional extras in the form of carbon fiber accents, bigger and more prominent aero bits, transparent roof panels, racing stripes among the most notable that certainly help you personalize your Vette.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06’s Competition

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is definitely a much different car than the Hellcat but it is tough to pick out competitors for a car that performs better than cars that are twice the price and has little to no rivals in its own price range. When it comes to the Z06 vs Hellcat debate the only thing that we can really banter on is high power output because the Hellcat puts out 707 hp while the Z06 has 650 hp under the hood. In a straight line, the Hellcat might leave the Z06 in the dirt but the Z06 is certainly going to run circles around the Hellcat on a Track. The Z06 is also the more compliant and sophisticated of the two while the Hellcat is a modern muscle car rendition and does live up to its boat-like handling stereotype.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs 2019 Shelby GT350R

The Shelby GT350R is one of the saddest forms of the Ford Mustang that a person can buy and the fact that it is astonishingly quick around the track and certainly sheds off its muscle car image for a more European like setup and is up to the task to give the Z06 a run for its money. The GT350R with its flat-plane crank engine and higher redline and arguably a better soundtrack might just steal the show from the Corvette Z06, but we are going to at least leave this up for you guys to decide which one appeals more to your soul.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs 2019 Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 range of cars are much more expensive than the Corvette Z06, but the fact that we are sitting here comparing the two puts it into perspective as to how brilliant the C7 Z06 is to be able to stand next to such a legend and be able to steal the show. The Z06 has everything going for it- The much lower price tag, the more powerful engine, lower maintenance costs, and a more distinct design language. If money is a variable, which in practical life it is. The Z06 wipes the floor with the 911 by offering much more for your money.
